Lundqvist examines the antitrust treatment of joint research and development in the US and under European Union law, with some analysis of related agreements for implementing the results of such collaborations, such as standardization agreements. His case studies are the telecommunications, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology sectors, where collaboration into the creation and adoption of innovations is more common than elsewhere and so also more common the possible anti-competitive effects. He considers the evaluation and regulation of research and development collaboration under antitrust law, but not under merger regulations.
