*Preface

The book is to introduce to you the technique of inner practice at the beginning stage. The vocabulary of Inner Practice is not a strange one to the people today, but most people are poor to understand the mechanism and the law at the level of the methodology of inner practice. In the modern, the official Chinese to name the form of the inner practice appearing in China is Qigong (Ch’i-gung). In accordance with the view of the modern science that Qigong or Yoga the practicing method that without any of the methodology theory for guidance, only with the religious idea or the mystery color. The general situation is the matter of the inner practicing method in a long history river had not developed to become the technology. The technique of inner practice in the book is the a part of intensive training method of Wisdom Energy Qigong; one of the features of Wisdom Energy Qigong is that a completed and methodical system founded on the classical Qigong as the base with near fifty hundred years history. Other feature is the methods with the methodological theory of Wisdom Energy Science (WES) in guidance. WES is an academic discipline at the level of science. Because the science is to research the phenomena of the inner practice, in China, the kind of practice that the Qigong. So, the science in Chinese is named Qigong Science. The main task of Qigong Science is to discover the original nature, the mechanism and the law of Qigong.

Because the method of Wisdom Energy Qigong was founded on the classical Qigong method as the base, classical Qigong originated in ancient China. It is for this reason; before practicing the Qigong method, you have to understand some of necessary knowledge on the classical Qigong and understand the surrounding condition that the development Qigong. The first chapter is this for. So, this book is not just for the people who interested in the practicing method or the method practicing of Qigong; to the West people who has the idea to get an overview of Qigong in ancient and in modern time, the read the book is beneficial to. In the reading of the second chapter, you will understand the method of Wisdom Energy Qigong that is not a skill with the mystery color but is a kind of technique under the guidance of the theory of WES.

China is thought that has more than fifty hundred years history, the history of Qigong also has the forty eight hundred years at least. In brief, the Qigong practice in ancient was the mainly practicing activity in exploring the secret of Nature, the secret of human body, studying the relation of Nature and human being, in the invention of the technique, in running of the society state and in creating the literature and the arts success. After the great revolution at 1911, China was with a great revolution, the monarchy rule system with more than twenty hundred years was ended. The political, economic system and the social situation got a great change after the revolution, and China attempted to learn everything from the West world, China began going into the modern times thereby. It is on the background, the method of Qigong that as one of the forms of Chinese culture had to change to suit the new social mold. Thus, after 1911, Qigong began getting the reform. Before 1979, Qigong method had got the three major times of the significant reformation.

From the year of 1979’s, a new matter appeared at the mainland China that the mass Qigong tide and soon to develop a movement of Qigong reformation and popularization, continued to the end of 1999. On the matter of reformation, the method of classical Qigong was got a significant reform for everybody can be able to practice. On the Qigong popularization, the mass Qigong tide was the mainstream in the Qigong field, the purpose was the three: The first, to lead the common people going into the Qigong practice for self-healing. The second is to save the huge sums of the medical expenses for the government. The third is Qigong practice once in the guidance of an reasonable theory, the matter has the effect of improvement of the moral state of a society. The fourth was to make the base on which built a new academic discipline to make Qigong the ancient skill to a science, that the Qigong Science to guide humans to gain the more freedom in Nature. Because, the development of a science is depended on the demand of a society, so, the one of the necessary conditions to establish the discipline of Qigong Science is matter of Qigong practice to become a part of content of the commoners in daily.

In the great movement, so many of the Qigong methods were in reformation and in popular in the modern future. The mass Qigong is a new kind of Qigong had not appeared in the history, it with the better efficiency of the mental and physical state transformation including the self-healing. The beginning stage method of Wisdom Energy Qigong is the first one of the mass Qigong. The whole of the methods of Wisdom Energy Qigong is an entire system organized with the newly techniques of Qigong reformed from the chosen method of classical Qigong, the method practicing is under the guidance of the academic theory at the level of Qigong Science.

In the basic intensive method of Wisdom Energy Qigong, there are three kinds of outer form for practicing Qi. Among them, the standard moving method was the essential one for the intensive training of the program students of WES. The first and the second stage of the standard moving method are at the beginning level with the feature of popular Qigong. The two sets of method attracted the millions people to practice for self-healing and fitness in the mass Qigong tide.

A general question was: Qigong had not got the reform and popularity in the ancient with so many years, would be the essences of Qigong removed as Qigong in reformation and popularization? The concern is unnecessary, because the essences of Qigong are the effect of healing and health, the main purpose of Qigong method reform is for the improvement of the health state, the reformed Qigong methods certainly keeps the efficiency of Qigong thereby. And the Wisdom Energy Qigong has the feature that the method practicing is under the guidance of the the academic theory; the classical Qigong without it. In the Qigong field, only Wisdom Energy Qigong has the theory. From aspects we could see that the efficiency of Wisdom Energy Qigong method is better than any of classical Qigong method.

As a Qigong practitioner, you have to know a fact that Qigong was developed in born in a small agrarian society in which the life of the people were in the self-sufficient state with alone family of themselves; and other problem was very most Chinese were the illiteracy in ancient. The whole world at the times was with poor transportation and communication. As a kind of traditionally cultural phenomenon, the classical Qigong just developed under such a condition with the marks of the ancient political and economic system, the ancient level of science, the Qigong practice were with the mystery color and the religious idea, the phenomena of Qigong was explained in the view of Natural philosophy, the multi sects of Qigong with the various practicing methods, and so on.

Or ask: What is the purpose of WES established. It is I said, however the classical or modern Qigong had not settled off the general questions on Qigong, e g., what is the original nature of Qigong, what is the real purpose of Qigong practicing, what is the mechanism of the eye-catching effect of Qigong at the aspects of mental and physical state improvement, what the laws of Qi practicing, what the key element of practicing Qi, etc. It was so important questions that had not been got the answer at the level of science. The situation causes a serious problem that most people do not understand the inner practice. Of cause, most of people will not go to learn and practice a something they not understand and the matter without any of rational theory.

In the view of WES, humanity has the two kinds of practicing method or activities, one is inner practicing method or activity; other is the outer practicing method or activity. The former has not been regard as the necessary one in the production activity and daily life so far, the latter one is the main activity to complete the daily jobs. It is known, the practicing method is the necessary element in the matter of human getting the success. The perfect practicing activity undoubtedly causes a perfect state in the world exploring. Then, a non-perfect practicing activity of cause will not bring a perfect success. The fact is, humanity still has not understood the inner practice and has not been with the two kinds of practicing activity to explore Nature, the state of human understanding Nature is in unperfected therefore. So, the state of humanity today is as like as a person who is out of a normal state, in spite of the fact that man has got a great success today that had not been appeared in history. According to the theory of WES, the inner practice once in popularization and become one of the activities in the scientific research, and the ability developed from the Qigong practice once applies into the production activities, we can expect that within a not long time, the state of would will certainly get an significant change.

Qigong as one of the forms of inner practice, then, in the river of the history, the method of Qigong was taken by the Chinses religious groups as the meaning of closing to the gods for the Qigong method has the efficiency of the paranormal ability (psychic ability) development. The person who with the ability, sometimes would appear some of the miracles speech in the religious groups and believed the miracles was the gifts from the gods by the believers. West science is actually develops in the outer practicing activity, the theory of modern science cannot explain the religious phenomena therefor as facing the religious phenomena. It makes a strange phenomenon that quite most of the scientists in West are the members of religious group, but as the scientist they cannot understand the original nature of the religious activity in spite of often in the activity. If the scientist were in the inner practice under the guidance of the methodological theory, e g., to practice the method of Wisdom Energy Qigong method with the theory of WES, the situation would be got a change certainly; as least, the scientists can be able to understand the nature of the religious activity and the practicing method. Science has not a sword to cut Gordian knot of religion, but the theory of WES could give to Science some of the message at the aspects.

What is the state of inner practice? In it, mind is in the state of focusing inward, the state forms a condition that causes one’s mind to unify the Qi in human body. The state is seldom to appear in daily. In the inner practicing state, the practitioner is possible to regulate his/her internal Qi to unify the Natural Qi with his/her Qi-field by the movement of spirit (mind). It is the effective way to transform the mental and physical state from the common to the level that higher than common. The state of patient whose health level is lower than common one, in the inner practice, the state gets an improvement. As the improvement of the state getting the common level, the body is without any of disease. The process is the Qi-healing. But, the effect of healing just is the side product of the inner practice and the basic condition of Qigong practice.

In the outer practicing method or activity, mind is in the scattering state going out of the body with the sense organs leading, and with the logical thinking to abstract the concept of the matters to understand the matter. It is the common state of man today, and also the means of the Nature exploring for West people. In the human history, the accumulation of the product material, in the product power increasing and the quality of human life improvement, the outer practice is the main activity. And in the outer practicing activity, humans established the modern science and made our world to get a great change within three hundred years only.

But the outer practice has its serious problems that is impossible settled off by itself; the problems causes the shortage that in the outer practice method, people is very difficult to grasp the original nature of the matter if without the method of logical argument. And at the aspect of making a matter having a qualitative change, the outer practicing usually has to consume the power or energy. If Science could understand the inner practice, if the two kinds of the activity are in combination to explore Nature, Science would get the much greater success than today.

Or ask: Why the founder did not directly name of the discipline the Qigong Science but plus the “wisdom energy”? Briefly, in the Qigong field, there are the numberless kind of methods and sects, each of them has the advantaged and shortages. A person or a team who want to found an academic discipline of Qigong, they must practice all of the methods in present and get the necessary experience from the methods. It is impossible completed by a few persons within years.

The simple situation of WES: The founders: Ming Pang, licensed doctor of bio medicine and Chinese classical therapy, vice-professor of Chinese martial arts, senior scholar of Qigong from the early years of 1980. Chulai Tao, scientist of Chinese Academy of Sciences and scientist of space technology in China, also a senior scholar of Qigong. The pro-matter of WES is Wisdom Energy Qigong. Wisdom Energy Qigong focused the matter of Qigong popularization in China from 1979 to 1987, and from 1987, focus to the Qigong education; from 1991, the Training Center of Wisdom Energy Qigong China established. From 1992, the theory of WES in publication, the college and the institution of WES started to work.

After June 1999, all of the licensed Qigong organizations in China were closed with the executive will of the Chinese government. The Training Center of Wisdom Energy Qigong China was also. So, the studying paradigm of WES is in the sleep state today, in spite with the success that has not appeared in the history. Then, as a new science, Qigong Science will not be in sleeping forever, and any of the scientific theory once appears, it will not be in sleeping. The theory of WES can settle off so many problems that the modern science cannot in the visible future.

All of the Qigong methods can be classified as the three practicing forms that standard moving method, irregular moving method and stable method. The essence of the three is one that makes the practitioner's mental and physical state from the common level to the level higher than commoners. Wisdom Energy Qigong has the systematic method of the three practicing forms. In practice, the standard moving method is the effective and easiest one for understanding and for practicing among.

The methods of Qigong in the chapters of third and sixth of the book are the typically standard moving method at the beginning level. The standard moving method is the focused one in Wisdom Energy Qigong. Or ask: What is the meaning of Wisdom Energy? In the view of WES, the wisdom energy is produced by the movement of spirit. The wisdom energy has the two kinds of common wisdom energy and the paranormal wisdom energy. The former is everybody has, the latter is seldom to appear at the commoners. But both of them are the necessary matter of man. The inner practice is the effective method to develop the paranormal wisdom energy.

What is the different point of the standard moving method and irregular moving method? In short, in the former, the body forms are designed. In the latter, the postures appearing is in random in the intensive training, and without the ruler to evaluate the postures appearing in the practicing is right or not, because the postures being controlled directly with the internal Qi in movement, mind in the method just controls the internal Qi but not controls the motion of the physical body. The state is seldom to appear in daily in active.

In the standard moving method, mind directly focuses to the movement of the physical body and in the way to cause the internal Qi in activation for the movement of the physical body led with the movement of internal Qi. For everybody having the ability of mind controlling and leading the body moving, the job in daily of human being is completed in this mechanism also, just the practitioner is without realizing the state. The standard moving method is the easiest one in learning, practicing and teaching thereby. In the body movement, the internal Qi is easy to move, the method is the effective one to cause the internal to move in the body. Because as the internal Qi moving in the moving state, the body will not appear the Deviation of Qi-moving symptom, the standard moving method therefor is a safety one to the beginners.

Or ask: Is it the physical exercises having the similar mechanisms or the similar effectiveness as similar as the standard moving method, because in the sports, it is also the mind to lead the physical body in movement? And the standard moving method of Qigong is it the physical exercise? The right answer in short is: Both of standard moving method and physical exercise is in a mechanism that mind directly focuses to the movement of the physical body. But, in the inner practice, mind focused inward; in the physical exercise, mind focuses the motion of the limbs to compete the body forms, does not focus into the physical body or into the mind itself. On the energy supplied, the sports men are entirely depended on the adequate nutrition and the adequate rest. To the Qigong people, the way to supplement for consumed energy is relied to the two ways, one is to absorb the intangible matter (Qi) in the Qigong state, the other way is as same as the commoners to absorb the tangible matter, e g., food is one kind of, and with the regular rest.

The topics above are the discussion in detailed in the book.

Explanatory Note

For a reason that as the method of Wisdom Energy Qigong in appearing, the theory of WES was not in public, the specific training methods at the time always called the “method” (Kung-fa/功法) as same as in the classical Qigong field. In the book, I always use the word of method but not the called technique except for the Qi-conduction and Qi-organization the two matters created by the founder of Wisdom Energy Qigong. In the view of Science, the method with the theory at the scientific level in guidance that the technique.

Even though, the Qigong methods in the book were given the detailed explanation and the illustrations, the state of the inner practice method is not easy to be understood with the words and pictures, because it is the form of inner practice, the body demonstration just is the outer form in the practicing. The best way is to read the Notes or the Key Notes more during learning and practicing the method if without the face to face instruction. The fact is the state of single-minded and mind focusing inward is impossible to descript with speech clearly. As a Qigong practitioner, you have to understand a matter, the body forms in the intensive training of the standard moving method are the necessary element of cause, but the most important element in the inner practice is the state of mind.

The common sense of Qi-point and the Qi-meridian are the necessary one to the Qigong practitioner, but the names of them are difficult to translate into English and also are not easy caught with Roman alphabet, the current doing is to make them with the numbers in serial of each of Qi-meridian in English book. It causes the other problem that the abbreviations of Qi-meridian’s names are in different in the books by the different persons. The name of the Qi-meridians in the book were picked from Chinese Acupuncture and Moxibustion by Cheng Xin-nong as the chief editor; published by Foreign Languages Press 1987, China. The book is the text book of the acupuncture collage in location of New York I studied before the years of 2005, for the books of Qigong writing.

The other matter on the description of Qigong state that was we could not find the exact vocabulary in English to express the accurate meaning of the terminologies in Chinese word by word; because in West, there is not the matter similar as Qigong in the history. Facing the fact, a quite more terms in the book were created. In my idea, the best way in the translation of the Qigong terms were to avoid using the Roman alphabet as can as possible, in spite of the way was easier to. During the book making, I luckily got the great helps from a student of mine, Mark Chen (Fig.8~34), graduated from New York University and St John’s University in New York, the Master of Education. As an Taiwanese,English is his first language. During his growth in New York, he learnt Chinese from his elders. He also is a practitioner of Wisdom Energy Qigong and with ten years more experience of Chinese martial arts teaching in New York. We discussed the questions on the translation often during I wrote the book. If had not got the help of Mr. Chen, I would not been possible to complete the book as well as today at the aspect of translating the terminology of Qigong and Qigong Science.

I must gratitude the other person, who is David Lee an entrepreneur in New York. It was the supporting of his to make the condition to me having the time as a full-time writer during the writing. Without his help if I had, I also would not have been published the book as planned.

By the way, this is my forth academic works on Qigong. The three before is in Chinese. The next one in English will be the fundamental theory of WES. A matter that I am very regrettable to the readers whose mother tongue is English, because English to me is the second language. So, the speech in the book is not in the idiomatic English. As an author, I hope you could understand the method and the knowledge in the book with my speech. I wish the next book on the translation would be certainly better than this.

Then, I rolled the corresponded academic class of WES in 1993 for I been older than the rolled age of full-time students of WES program at the time. From 1996, I was as an instructor of Wisdom Energy Qigong. It from the October 2004, I started up to write the academic works on Wisdom Energy Qigong and the Taoism Kung-fu that Mr. King passed down me. From March 2005, I taught the method of Wisdom Energy Qigong in New York. From 2012 to 2015, published the three books in Chinese. This book is the first one in English on the technique of Wisdom Energy Qigong with the methodological knowledge of WES.
