心之功能 Functions of the Heart

This pocket-sized paperback is one of the twenty-four titles published for 2017 Hong Kong International Poetry Nights. The theme of IPHHK2017 is “Ancient Enmity”. IPNHK is one of the most influential international poetry events in Asia. From 22–26 November 2017, over 20 invited poets from various countries will be in Hong Kong to read their works based on the theme “Ancient Enmity.” Included in the anthology and box set, these unique works are presented with Chinese and English translations in bilingual or trilingual formats.

瑟梅茲定•梅赫梅迪维奇，1960年出生於圖茲拉，波斯尼亞，曾就讀於薩拉熱窩大學。1994年，他與其他五位波斯尼亞作家一同獲得國際作家筆會（PEN）頒發的赫爾曼•哈默特獎，以表彰他們在戰火之中堅守民主信念。梅合梅迪维奇於1996年以政治難民身份到達美國。他出版的著作包括《薩拉熱窩藍調》（1992），《九座亞歷山大城》（2002），《蘇維埃電腦》（2011），《和一個信差包的自畫像》（2012），《穆罕默德，紅色香蕉和雪花》（2017年）。他目前住在美國維吉尼亞州的阿靈頓郡。

Semezdin Mehmedinović (Bosnia 波斯尼亞)
Semezdin Mehmedinović was born in Tuzla, Bosnia in 1960, and was educated at the University of Sarajevo. In 1994, with five other Bosnian writers, he received the Hellman-Hammet Award from PEN for persistence in preserving democracy in the midst of war. Mehmedinović arrived in the United States as a political refugee in 1996. His books include Sarajevo Blues (1992), Nine Alexandrias (2002), Soviet Computer (2011), Self-portrait With a Messenger Bag (2012) and Me'med, red bandana and snowflake (2017). He currently lives in Arlington, VA.

也許並不全面，但我猜想

美國至少有九個城市叫做亞歷山大

新世界的地圖必須根據

測量舊世界的方法

複寫在靛藍的海洋上

 

只有一個方法能讓我

穿州過市去旅行：

從一個亞歷山大城到另一們

總是抵達同一個城市

 

我只能肯定一件事

這個世界仍然保持完整

我能否想像自己從一個

美國的亞歷山大城到另一個

在同一個埃及的港口

Maybe that isn’t all of them hut the way I figure it

There are at least nine cities in America called Alexandria.

Principle of tracing the old world

Through an ocean of indigo...

 

The only thing that makes

My trip across country imaginable is this:

Going from one Alexandria to another

I can’t help but get to the same city.

 

And only by knowing for sure

That the world is still in one piece

Can I imagine moving from one

American Alexandria to another,

On the same Egyptian dock
