Between 1954 and 1962 (when the study was halted by the U.S. government seizing his supply of LSD) psychiatrist Oscar Janiger studied the reactions of some 930 men and women of differing backgrounds to ingestion of LSD-25 in a safe environment. Medical anthropologist de Rios reports on the results of that study and a sub- study devoted to artists, convinced that it contains evidence of LSD's potential to heighten creative response, to instigate or deepen spiritual connection and awareness, and to aid in therapeutic processes. She lets the study's participants speak for themselves for the most part, "in the tradition of Western psychosocial studies." 作者簡介
Oscar Janiger, M.D. (1918-2001), was one of the first American researchers to study the psychedelic drugs DMT and LSD and was the author of A Different Kind of Healing. Marlene Dobkin de Rios, Ph.D., is a medical anthropologist who has conducted fieldwork in the Amazon on the plant hallucinogen ayahuasca. She has written several books, including Visionary Vine and Hallucinogens: Cross Cultural Perspective. She lives in southern California.
