German doctoral students Hartmann (Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig) and Marschke (U. of Erfurt) text is the second in a two-volume work on Hocak, a highly-endangered North American Indian language spoken by some 200 people in various parts of Wisconsin and Nebraska. It evolved from a 2002-2008 research project documenting endangered languages, carried out at the U. of Erfurt and funded by the Volkswagen Foundation. As a reference tool for learners and teachers of the Hocak language, it is designed to accompany Hocak Teaching Materials, Volume 1: Elements of Grammar/Learner's Dictionary, edited by Johannes Helmbrecht (U. of Regensburg, Germany) and Christian Lehmann (U. of Erfurt). Volume 2 contains ten texts recorded, documented, and transcribed during the research project. Each text is accompanied by a precise grammatical analysis and both word-by-word and free translations.
