The 1917 transition of rule in Jerusalem from the Ottomans to the British is treated generally as a rupture, according to Jacobson (the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzlia, Israel), who here suggests that, while it certainly was a period of change, there are many neglected continuities that together with the ruptures, provide a key to understanding the history of the city and its residents. Her history of the city examines its evolution between the years 1912 and 1920, focusing on the formation of communal categories and developments in intercommunal relations between Arabs and Jews in the city and how they were impacted by the imperial rules of the Ottomans and the British. 作者簡介
Abigail Jacobson teaches at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzlia, Israel. Her research focuses on the social and urban history of Palestine in the late Ottoman period and the British mandate. Her articles have appeared in journals such as the International Journal of Middle East Studies, the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, and Jerusalem Quarterly.
