Sustainable Systems and Energy Management at the Regional Level

The goal of this collection is to pursue, rather than to answer, the question of how it is possible, in a global world, for a system to be environmentally sustainable and energy efficient in the long term, and how such matters impact choices, strategies, and behavior of policy makers, decisionmakers, and citizens. Contributors with technical, organizational, and economic expertise--many of with experience in non-industrialized countries--look at regulatory impacts; policies and incentives; experiences, actions, and models; and communication policies. Among the topics discussed are assessing the barriers to greener fiscal measures and ecology tax reform in the transport sector, some regional studies on production costs and net energy balance of liquid and gaseous biofuels, a Finnish national project on developing a business model for exploiting geothermal energy, Madrid as a case study for mitigating and adapting climate change policies at the local level, and community opposition and public engagement with wind energy in Britain.
