This volume contains the results of a research project financed by the Hague Institute for the Internationalisation of Law and carried out by law and political science scholars from Erasmus U. Rotterdam and the U. of Groningen in the Netherlands. The study seeks to identify how European Union law is applied by national courts through surveys of and interviews with national judges on their views with regard to the application of EU law. The surveys and interviews were designed to elicit responses pertinent to how the application of EU law by national judges is influenced by negative or positive experiences with applying EU law within national legal systems, problems concerning knowledge of EU law, and underlying attitudes of national judges towards their role as decentralized EU judges.
