A research project at the University of Nottingham between 2004 and 2007 collected nearly four thousand references to oaths and swearing in Greek texts of all kinds from the introduction of alphabetic writing until 322. The first of two volumes that emerged from the study, Oaths and Swearing in Ancient Greece, has not actually gone to print yet. The 13 studies here look in turn at oaths in the polis and oaths and interstate relations. The topics include oaths and citizenship, oaths of office, conspiracies, the formulation and procedure of interstate oaths, oaths in peace treaties, and oaths and the barbarian.
