Resilience of Regionalism in Latin America and the Caribbean — Development and Autonomy

Regionalisation has become a central issue in national and international debates since the end of the Cold War. Yet, when local contributions to regionalism are considered, these are generally related to areas related to philosophy, identity and literature, rather than political economy. Addressing this vacuum, the authors of this volume argue that autochthonous ideas matter. Covering macro regional and sub-regional outlooks, as well as presenting particular national perspectives concerning regionalist thinking, the contributors consider issues of regionalism where economics, political science and international relations come together.

Andres Rivarola Puntigliano is Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the Institute of Latin American Studies (LAIS), Stockholm University, Sweden. He has long experience in teaching and research about Latin America, but also on broader issues concerning comparative regionalism with other areas of the world. His previous works include are: El Pensamiento Integracionista Latinoamericano (co-edited with Jose Briceno Ruiz, 2011) and Fondo de Cultura Economica de Espana (forthcoming).

Jose Briceno Ruiz is a senior lecturer a the Faculty of Social and Economic Science of the University of the Andes, Venezuela. He has been Associated Researcher of Centre of Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CREALC) Institut d'Etudes Politiques d'Aix, France and the Centre of Latin American Studies Romulo Gallegos in Caracas, Venezuela. He is Director of Cuadernos sobre Relaciones Internacionales Regionalismo y Desarrollo. He has been visiting Scholar at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina; The Federal University of Porto Alegre, Brazil and Stockholm University, Sweden.
