Sears List of Subject Headings

This resource lists subject headings used by small and medium-sized libraries, with patterns, examples, and notes on usage. The subject headings are listed alphabetically and aligned with the Dewey Decimal Classification system and include a list of canceled and replacement headings, as well as a discussion of the theoretical foundations of the list and the general principles of subject cataloging. This edition includes 250 new headings created since 2010, such as business, sports, science, technology, engineering, and math topics like business writing, economic indicators, flipped classrooms, massive open online courses, systemic risk, target marketing, iPad, linked data, deflation, derivative securities, subprime mortgages, aikido, Paralympic Games, World Cup, cloud computing, functional equations, human-computer interaction, information theory, near-earth objects, streamlining technology, and virology, and has expanded coverage for developing topics and updates to some areas, such as using Latino terms in place of Hispanic headings, changing to headings under people with disabilities instead of handicapped, and new headings for the Occupy Movement and Arab Spring.
