Jewish Journeys: From Philo to Hip Hop

The Jewish journey is central to the Jewish experience but has received almost no scholarly attention. This multi-disciplinary collection is thus path-breaking and a contribution to wider scholarship. It deals with both physical and spiritual Jewish journeys, as well as cultural and intellectual ones, exploring the relationship between these different categories. It covers a wide chronology and has a global reach including Europe, Israel, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. The essays are scholarly but accessible to a wide readership, reflecting the intrinsic interest of the subject matter.

James Jordan is Ian Karten Postdoctoral Research Fellow, The Parkes Institute and English Department, University of Southampton. He is the co-editor of The Memory of the Holocaust in Australia (Vallentine Mitchell, 2008) and Holocaust Studies: A Journal of Culture and History.
Tony Kushner is Marcus Sieff Professor, The Parkes Institute and History Department, University of Southampton. His most recent publications include Anglo-Jewry since 1066: Place, Locality and Memory (Manchester University Press, 2009).
Sarah Pearce is Ian Karten Senior Lecturer in Jewish History, a member of the Parkes Institute and the Department of History, University of Southampton. She is the co-Chair of the Philo of Alexandria Group of the Society of Biblical Literature (USA, 2007 to present), and President of the British Association for Jewish Studies (2010). Recent publications include The Land of the Body: Studies in Philo's Representation of Egypt (Tubingen, Mohr Siebeck, 2007) and (Co-ed) Jewish Perspectives on Hellenistic Rulers (University of California Press, 2008).
