商品簡介
In 1910 an exhibition at the Haus der Kunst, Munich received thousands of visitors and had an inspirational impact on numerous artists, including Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc, among others. The exhibition was titled "Masterpieces of Muhammadan Art." It featured an extraordinary 3,600 objects, and it changed how Islamic art was received in the West. Marking the 100-year anniversary of that exhibition, another exhibition was held titled "Changing Views," for which this volume serves as a catalogue. Thirty items from the original exhibit are included along with contemporary works from the Islamic world--shown full-page, with thorough descriptive text. Essays examining both past and present interactions are presented in both German and English, in a three-column format, with very small type. The three editors are as follows: Chris Dercon and Leon Krempel (Haus der Kunst); and Avinoam Shalem (history of Islamic art, Ludwig-Maximilians U., Munich). The volume is oversize (9.5x13.5").
