商品簡介
Discussion encompasses American Indian traditions and their relevance for the 21st century; the impact of colonialism on American Indian communities; tribal governments and federal, state, and local governments; and the application of traditional principles to tribal governance and to economic, educational, psychological, and social problems. This book emerged from collaborative efforts over the course of roughly two decades, beginning in 1992, aimed at developing articles and papers pertaining to policy and progress in Native American affairs. The introduction explains the book's genesis and approach and identifies the editors as follows: LaDonna Harris (Comanche), founder of Americans for Indian Opportunity; Stephen Sachs (emeritus, political science, Indiana U.-Purdue U. Indianapolis) and Barbara Morris (Comanche and Cherokee), professor of government, Fort Lewis College, Colorado. Five contributing authors are also identified, but the writing process involved drafts and revisions from the team, and the chapters are not individually signed. The bibliography is extensive.
