New to the second edition of this handbook are 8 new chapters--four are on new drug treatments, the others are on transcranial magnetic stimulation, spasticity treatment, the use of phenol for treatment, dystonic symptoms associated with Parkinsons disease--and additional material in the original chapters, including discussion of genetics, neuroanatomy, neurophysiology, and neuropathology. The 34 chapters are grouped into sections--epidemiology and pathogenesis, signs and symptoms, and treatment options--with topics that include drug-induced dystonia, dopa-responsive dystonia, secondary dystonia, and evaluation and management of the primary dystonia patient. The section of treatments includes 7 chapters on botulinum toxin, the most significant drug used for treatment. Handbook of Dystonia, Second Edition, will again be edited by Mark A. Stacy, whose reputation in the industry as an expert in this movement disorder has only grown since he developed the very successful first edition. Dr. Stacy, now a professor of neurology at Duke University, has attracted a team of internationally-recognised movement disorder specialists to write the first edition of the book. These experts have returned to update their chapters, and new treatment specialists have been recruited to write the new botulinum toxin chapters.
