Two-Component Systems in Bacteria

Two-component systems are the predominant signal transduction devices of Eubacteria, and their simple molecular architecture allows them to be employed in many different cellular processes. Microbiologists, biochemists, and other biological scientists describe selected novel aspects of signal transduction mechanisms by two-component systems and of their biological function in different bacteria. The topics include the structural basis of signal transduction and specificity in two-component systems, phosphatase activity of two-component system transmitter proteins, the molecular mechanism of bacterial two-component signal transduction networks via connectors, two-component signaling in the gram-positive envelope stress response, two-component systems involved in the regulation of motility and development in Myxococcus xanthus, and chemotactic signal transduction in Helicobacter pylori.
