William B. Gould IV (law, Stanford U.) presents an account of his great grandfather William B. Gould (1837-1923), an extraordinary and unusually educated man who escaped slavery by rowing out to a Union gunboat off Wilmington, North Carolina. His subsequent experiences with and reflections on war, various military engagements, and race relations are addressed in the diary he kept from 1862 to 1865. 作者簡介
William B. Gould IV is the Charles A. Beardsley Professor of Law at Stanford University. He served as Chairman of the National Labor Relations Board during the Clinton administration, and has written extensively in labor law.
