1.What marked the birth of The Football Association?
In October 1863，eleven London clubs and schools sent their representatives to the Freemason’s Tavern.These representatives were intent on clarifying the muddle by establishing a set of fundamental rules，acceptable to all parties，to govern the matches played amongst them.
2.When and how did football and rugby finally split?
A stage had been reached where the ideals were no longer compatible.On 8 December 1863，football and rugby finally split.Their separation became totally irreconcilable six years hence when a provision was included in the football rules forbidding any handling of the ball（not only carrying it）.

1.soccer是美式英語中足球的意思，但（注意）指的是英式足球（FIFA那種），因為美式英語中football指美式橄欖球；
2.football在英式英語和美式英語中都有，英式英語中football就是足球（FIFA），美式英語中指美式橄欖球；
3.rugby指橄欖球，在美式和英式英語中沒有爭議，但這種橄欖球的賽制和規則與美式橄欖球有區別，rugby是英國、澳大利亞、新西蘭、法國、意大利等地的橄欖球。
