Central America is becoming increasingly enmeshed in a "new war order," an outgrowth of the crisis of capitalist globalization, argues Robinson (sociology, U. of California at Santa Barbara). He describes globalization (and other transnational phenomena) as having driven major social, economic, and political restructuring from the 1960s to the present, contributing to the demise of old oligarchies and revolutionary movements, reconfigurations of civil society, and growing links to the global economy. These processes are resulting in new social contradiction that, in turn, are creating new social movements and changing prospects for popular transformation of the region. 作者簡介
William Robinson is Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is the author of several books, including David and Goliath: The US War Against Nicaragua and A Theory of Global Capitalism.
