The relationship of Christians and Jews, the political reality for the Jews, and how both of these changed and developed as Morvedre changed from a frontier town to a mainstream Christian community are central themes. Tax rolls provide a documentary resource here and the economic role of the Jews, tax laws, tax collection, and the prejudice the Jews experienced as a direct result of their role in financial spheres are described at length.
