商品簡介
The present upsurge of Jewish studies in German academia raises questions about the discipline's self-understanding and relationship to other areas of study, says Wiese (Jewish studies, Erfurt U.), and these questions cannot be resolved without examining the history of the study of Judaism in the 19th century. He contributes to that history and to understanding how Jewish studies saw itself in Germany before the Holocaust, and critically analyzes the attitude of Protestant theology at the time towards Jews, Judaism, and Jewish learning. Secondarily, he hopes to demonstrate implicitly the perspective inherent in this historical representation for the current relationship of theology and Jewish studies and for today's Christian- Jewish dialogue. The original Wissenschaft des Judentums und protestantische Theologie im wilhelminishen Deutschland was published in 1999 by J. C. B. Mohr (Paul Siebeck), Tübingen, and translated by Barbara Harshav and Christian Wiese. Annotation ©2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
