商品簡介
Environmentally-induced disease, social inequality in health outcomes, and other topics fall under the purview of a social problems approach to studying health and health care. Conrad (social sciences, Brandeis U.) and Leiter (sociology, Simmons College) present 17 papers that together examine six sets of social problems in health care. A social constructionist perspective is applied to the medicalization of human problems and the social construction of health problems. The impact of social movements on the understanding of medical problems is considered. The roles of gender, race, and class are examined. Finally, the issue of medical accountability in society is addressed. Annotation (c) Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
