A team of Canadian social scientists conducted a study of workers based on what workers say, not politicians or government workers. They find that while the concept of social cohesion offers workers an opportunity to raise some significant issues, its actual practice often operates to their detriment. Social cohesion can be worker friendly in the context of renewed solidarity between workers, they explain, but otherwise is likely to remain a form of social control rather than a set of policies that improves the lives of workers and their families.
