Sahra Gibbon holds a Wellcome Trust University Award and works in the Anthropology Department at University College London. She has carried out research in the UK, Cuba, and Brazil and is the author of a number of monographs and articles examining the social and cultural context of developments in genetic knowledge and technology, including Breast Cancer Genes and the Gendering of Knowledge (2007) and Biosocialities, Genetics and the Social Sciences: Making Biologies and Identities (with Carlos Novas, 2008).Ricardo Ventura Santos received his PhD from the Department of Anthropology of Indiana University in 1991. He is currently a professor of biological anthropology and public health at the National School of Public Health, Oswaldo Cruz Foundation and an associate professor of anthropology at the Department of Anthropology of the National Museum, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was a fellow of the Leadership Program of the MacArthur Foundation in Brazil and received his postdoctoral training at the Science, Technology and Society (STS) Program at MIT and at the University of Massachusetts.Monica Sans is an Associate Professor and Director of the Biological Anthropology Department in the University de la Republic in Uruguay. She has had numerous visiting fellowships and honorary appointments at universities across Latin America and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals on genetic admixture and population structure.
