Marshall (religion, Brandon U., Canada) provides a picture of the life of early Chinese immigrants in Manitoba, Canada. Since wives and daughters had been left behind in the old world, the men who immigrated had to adapt to a culture without women and the challenges and differences they encountered in the new world they inhabited. These Chinese bachelors ran the area's first laundries and restaurants, practiced their religion, went about their daily lives, and tried to establish an identity in rural Canada while holding on to the foundations of Chinese culture.
