Managing the Gift of Your ADD/HD Child

THIS BOOK WILL CHALLENGE THE MAINSTREAM THINKING OF ADD/HD: Dr. Kevin sees this as an evolutionary process and as such we need to allow it to adjust the environment and work with it, not medicate it. The goal of that process is to broaden the bandwidth of humanity, not to replace non-ADD/HD people but to "ADD" to them. ADD/HD people over the last century have been creating a more ADD/HD friendly and challenging environment with technology such as computers and interactive games. ADD/HD individuals are not broken, not disabled, do not need to be fixed and are mostly handicapped by a series of choices that oftentimes they don't know or understand why they are making. There is a need to separate what is really an ADD/HD issue and what is an issue of the ADD/HD person living in a non- ADD/HD. In this book parents are given insights, tools and skills to help empower the ADD/HD child in their life. The reader takes this journey through first understanding, then parenting, teaching guiding and supporting, learning how to embrace their child's gifts and talents on their terms. This can be accomplished without having to sacrifice brilliance, creativity or unique ways of seeing or being in the world through the overuse of medication or behavior modification techniques that destroy their self-worth and self-esteem.

Over the last thirty years, Dr. Kevin has been an innovator in both the business and private sectors. He introduced the importance of formalized training for all levels of employees, and implemented formalized training systems in diverse industries such as hospitality, financial services, retail, and education. He also created communication programs and critical thinking based management development programs in the personal growth, human potential, and alternative health fields. He was one of the first to introduce coaching into his practice, fusing it together with the more traditional approach of counseling to leverage the benefits of both in his unique practical approach. He is familiar with both Eastern and Western philosophies and healing systems and has assimilated elements from both into his methods. Throughout his career Dr. Kevin has learned a great deal from his personal experience with ADD/HD, and he works to expand the understanding of this gift. Dr. Kevin works with ADD/HD on many fronts, and has years of experience finding solutions. He has led children and parent groups to better understand and self-manage their ADD/HD gifts, and taught Continuing Educational Credit Course for teachers & counselors. Dr. Kevin has also worked with adults in areas of their personal and professional life and development, bringing his experience to help them make the best of their potential. Through Managing The Gift Business Consulting he and his team also specialize in helping ADD/HD business owners and key personnel achieve their professional potential. His groundbreaking book Managing the Gift: Alternative Approaches for Attention Deficit Disorder introduced the idea of ADD/HD as an evolutionary process, not a disability. Dr. Kevin continues to spread his message around the world as an author, Catalyst, teacher, and speaker. Dr. Kevin has also created daily practices that can help both children and adults to manage their ADD/HD gifts, which he has released as an audio CD companion to his original trend-setting book.
