Space Operations—Exploration, Scientific Utilization, and Technology Development

SpaceOps was founded in 1990 to foster discussion on space mission operations and ground data systems--to counteract the tunnel vision that develops in any organization, in this case, the agencies, academic institutions, and industries involved with space exploration and travel. This volume presents a selection of papers from SpaceOps 2010, a conference held in Huntsville, Alabama (organized by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center), with the theme "Delivering on the Dream." Thirty-one diverse papers are arranged according to the broad themes of mission management (e.g. experience from commercial remote-sensing flight operations, cost-effective operations); spacecraft operations (e.g. enhancing highly reliable launch systems design, taking the European Committee for Space Standardization autonomy concepts one step further); and ground system operations (disruption-tolerant networks, flight procedures automation, space network time distribution and synchronization protocol development for Mars proximity link).
