The Artist's Process—Technology and Interpretation: Proceedings of the Fourth Symposium of the Art Technoloical Source Research Working Group

The symposium was held in Vienna this time, organized by the Institute for Conservation and Restorations at the Academy of Fine Arts, where formal training in art restoration first began in 1908. The overall theme was the artistic process as manifested in the artwork itself and as documented in visual and written sources. The 23 full papers and 13 shorter papers from poster presentations consider such topics as material sources for art technological source research, identifying 16th-century paints on silver using a contemporary manuscript, sources for the study of pigments used by Goya and other 18th-century Spanish painters, analytical results versus documentary sources regarding ground layers in Portuguese Baroque polychrome wooden sculptures, and restoring Francesc Artigau's paintings from 1966.
