The Bloomsbury Companion to Continental Philosophy

This companion to continental philosophy is geared towards students and explores research problems and methods, as well as application in the arts and sciences. The collection of essays is organized into three sections. The first includes introductory essays that outline the book, paradigms of the possibility/impossibility of philosophy, and the practice of continental philosophy. The bulk of the text is presented as mini-digest essays that discuss key areas of interest to contemporary continental philosophers. Topics include metaphysics and ontology, consciousness and the body, philosophies of difference, political philosophy and ethics, continental Marxist thought, psychoanalysis, feminist philosophy, philosophies of life and science, aesthetics, literature and interpretation, and the future of continental philosophy. A resource guide appears in a final section that offers a contextualizing chronology of the tradition, thematically organized further readings, and a book-wide bibliography. The contributors are mostly European and American professors of philosophy and the humanities. Bloomsbury Academic is an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing.
