The New and Changing Transatlanticism ─ Politics and policy perspectives

The considerable and growing literature on transatlantic relations contains fundamental gaps in the areas of Public Administration and Public Policy. This book seeks to redress this imbalance by examining the policy successes and failures of the New Transatlantic Agenda (NTA).

Divided into two parts, experts from the EU and US investigate the origins of the New Transatlantic Agenda, the points of commonality and differences in the two systems of governance, and the major points of interest which the US and the EU have identified and targeted for intensive policy dialogue and convergence. In Part Two, close attention is paid to key policy areas such as trade, competition, transport, foreign policy, education which the EU and the US have addressed in implementing the NTA.

This insightful account into effectiveness and feasibility of network governance in producing policy convergence is a welcomed resource for policy specialists oriented toward comparative public policy wishing to enter the arena of Transatlantic Studies.

Laurie Buonanno is Professor and Chair in the Department of Political Science at Buffalo State College, SUNY. She is principal investigator of a four-year US Department of Education Atlantis mobility grant for transatlantic public administration. She has published two books—Policies and Policy Processes of the European Union (co-authored with Neill Nugent), Palgrave/Macmillan, EU Series (forthcoming, Spring 2012) and Import/Export Can Make You Rich (1988, Prentice-Hall). She has also published articles and book chapters focusing on comparative and EU policies. She is active in the European Union Studies Association’s public policy interest section and is a board member of the Institute for European Union Studies at SUNY (which she directed from 2003-2011).

Keith M. Henderson is Professor and Co-director of the MPA in Public and Non-Profit Administration at Buffalo State College, SUNY. He is author of many articles and book chapters focusing on comparative public administration and administrative practices. He has edited two books and has contributed to edited volumes.

Natalia Cuglesan is a scholar of multilevel governance and public administration in Central and Eastern Europe. She is a recipient of research grants from the European Union and serves on the editorial board of the Romanian Review of European Integration.
