Writing Situations

This color-illustrated composition text/handbook features an emphasis on thinking and problem-solving, with a wealth of open-ended assignments forcing students to actually think. The inviting layout offers color photos and large-format color process diagrams, as well as side-by-side comparisons of elements of different readings. Part 1 deals with writing processes and rhetorical situations, and Part 2 outlines types of thinking and problem solving and gives strategies for active reading and viewing. Part 3 presents writing projects in various genres, including narration, description, analysis, and argument. Parts 4 and 5 give guidelines on making visuals, designing documents, and using research. Part 6 offers mostly contemporary and some classic readings grouped in sections on technology, culture, sustainability, education, food, and the millennial generation.
