Flamenco on the Global Stage ─ Historical, Critical and Theoretical Perspectives

Defining the flamenco body as a “kinetic site of ideological resistance, its embodied articulation carr[ying] the cruel burden of marginalization and nomadism,” this volume emerges out of a question: Why have scholars been deaf to the language of the body as a central text in flamenco history? Aiming for a multidisciplinary, historically rigorous and theoretically rich framework that would benefit the dancing body and promote dialogue, it surveys flamenco scholarship and chronology, and offers new paradigms. Michelle Heffner Hayes, dancer, choreographer and dance scholar is currently a professor and chair of the Department of Dance at the University of Kansas in Lawrence.
