Covered Karsts

This book provides an overview of covered karsts, including types, features, their functioning and evolution as well as the development of covered karst reliefs. The introductory chapters present the characteristics of karst, the investigated areas and the applied methods. The covered karsts are typed according to the quality and development of the superficial deposit and the geomorphological position and environment. Further chapters describe the morphology, development, functioning, sediment development and the transformation of the karst features and analyse the relationship between the covered karst formation and the climate. Covered karst formation in the tundra, taiga, the temperate zone, fluvial zone, subtropical, tropical climates and high mountains is completely different to the formation of features in the covering rock as a result of mining, and as such the effects of human activity on covered karsts are also discussed.
