Drawing on in-depth interviews and group discussions, this timely book sheds new light on the impact of domestic violence on the formation of mother/infant relationships by placing women’s experiences of that violence at its heart. It also challenges the dominant attachment theory paradigm, offering an alternative understanding of how primary relationships between women and infants are formed in these situations. Instead, it analyzes real-life experiences to inform new multi-disciplinary approaches to helping women, children, and anyone raised in a setting of domestic violence.
