The Human Brain During the Third Trimester

This second volume in the atlas (the first covers the development of the spinal cord) contains grayscale photographs of Nissl-stained sections of brains (cut in coronal, sagittal, and horizontal planes) of normal specimens from gestational week 26 through 37. Arrangement is by plane (part two contains all of the coronal plane photographs), and each part includes a description of the specimen, diagrams showing major brain structures and the number and orientation of each section plane, labeled low magnification photographs of each section, and low magnification and high magnification companion plates. Virtually every named brain structure is shown in at least one plane, making this a comprehensive atlas of the maturing brain.
