Raised by their grandmother and mother in the picturesque village of Arnos Vale, Vaughna Craigg and her elder sister Del are typical village children. In public, they observe the manners taught at home or else, and transition through the traditions of the community to the modern era of technology. Vaughna, the main character and narrator, reveals her most memorable experiences as she develops from childhood to young adulthood.
