Justin was born on March 8, 2007, in Hong Kong. He goes to the school HKIS. He is Chinese, and he lives with his mom, dad and brother. His favorite authors are Rick Riordan, Stuart Gibbs, and J.K. Rowling, who inspired Justin to become a writer. In his free time, he enjoys watching YouTube, playing video games, and reading. This is his first chapter book. He hopes you've enjoyed the book.

In case you haven't read my first book, I'll explain some things that might be confusing when you read this one. My name is Luke Connors, and when I was 13, my parents were taken away by “government officials” with badges saying LWK. I was bullied and teased in school. I gradually adapted to life without my parents with the help of my friend Alex. One day, I decided to fight crime under the name of “The Shadow Knight” After a while, I met a duo of an ancient man and a young boy, Mr. Genesis and Magnus. They gave me fire powers, and I changed my hero name to Pyro after beating a greatly feared criminal. Alex learned my secret identity. Soon, they revealed that a man called Lucius Wolfe planned to enslave the human race. So we went to stop them: Alex, me, Mr. G, and Magnus. We went to Adonis Isle, and along the way befriended my old time bully Biff and Cassandra, my current girlfriend. Then, Alex was killed in a battle. We arrived at the fortress of Lucius Wolfe and met a kind guard. Lucius Wolfe revealed that he had imprisoned my parents and we reunited. After escaping from the fortress onto the roof, Lucius and I had a fight, which neither of us won, and Lucius jumped from the roof after making peace with me. I now have a pet wolf, and the kind guard joined us. The public thanked us for saving the world. We then set of on another adventure, this time to a place called Merriwyn.

Chapter 1

We had been walking for hours. Me with my giant pack, my mom and dad and the nice guard with travel bags, Cassandra struggling to roll her suitcase, Mr. Genesis walking with his magic duffel bag, Magnus with a bag to hold 3 quivers of arrows, my bow and his bow, and the usual stuff, Biff with another big carry bag, and Quicksilver padding by..
“This is a pretty good spot to camp for the night, huh Mr. G?” I asked. It was a grassy area, with enough undergrowth to conceal us and close to the trail, with leaves raked aside so it wouldn’t be easy to miss.
“Alright, fine!” Mr. Genesis said. He was a hard taskmaster. The only reason he let us camp is because Biff had fallen asleep in the middle of walking and had toppled backward and couldn’t get up. I pulled him up, and he dragged himself over to a clean spot. There was a clean river nearby, again; hidden in thick bushes, and we took turns bathing. I wore my bathing suit and used my soap to clean off the worst of the grime and the smell. I helped Quicksilver clean off a bit too. I felt cleaner than I had in days. This warlock stuff was tiring me out. Why did all of the fortresses/castles have to be at the unaccessible back of the island? I changed and sat on a log, like the others and began shaping a hickory wood throwing knife that I had started making. Every once in a while, I would check to see if it was balanced by putting a finger down the middle and letting it balance. If it stabilized, I would continue. If it didn’t, I would make some adjustments. Then, I fished out some sandpaper and began absentmindedly smoothing the knife.
As you know, we were going to Merriwyn. Later, after we had time to recover from our battle against Lucius Wolfe’s army, Mr. G told me that there was a warlock in Merriwyn. We went to find out if the magic was real and to stop what the warlock was doing, which was like gladiator fighting. Then, we were on Merriwyn and trying to find the warlock’s home.
Like Adonis Isle, Merriwyn had its fair share of criminals. Bandits, thieves, and some escaped gladiators. Most of the people that had attacked us were now nursing injuries. I was sitting there when a thought struck me.
“Hey, Mr. Nice Guard, what’s your actual name?” I said. The others looked shocked that they hadn’t thought to ask as well. We had gotten so used to calling him “The Nice Guard” that we didn’t feel the need to ask his real name.
“It’s um, let me think, er…” The faces around the camp grew even more shocked. I knew that I probably looked the same. How could it be that you didn’t even remember your name? The nice guard looked around and said “Hey, don’t blame me. I was there since childhood and Lucius just gave us numbers. I was 367.” Understanding dawned.
“But now I remember!” The nice guard exclaimed. “It was, um, J.C. Jace Cohen.” We all nodded in unison. “I joined the team because I wanted adventure. That was the whole reason I went to Lucius Wolfe. But I saw what he was doing and how he treated everyone, and I wanted to get out of there. But I wasn’t allowed to. So I carried out my days, miserable, trying to be as kind as possible, to make up for the cruelty of Lucius. When you guys arrived, I thought you were amazing. Just, fair, kind. So when Lucius passed away, I took advantage of the depleted numbers and raced to join you guys.”
“Welcome to the team, Jace,” Mr. Genesis said. We nodded again. I looked at the sun, nearly gone under the mountains. I checked the tip of my knife. A tiny pinprick of blood formed on the top of my fingertip. Good. I sucked away the blood and put a small band-aid.
“Let’s sleep now,” I said. “We’ve still got a lot of walking tomorrow.” Everyone groaned but welcomed the extra hours. We set up the campsite, with tents and stuff. Everyone lay down. Soon, I heard breathing deepen, and crickets around the campsite. I lay awake, staring at the top of my tent. For some reason, I couldn’t sleep. Then, suddenly, I heard a crinkle, and then a twig snap. I quietly zipped open my tent and stepped out into the chilly night air. My throwing knife was lying inside my tent. I quickly grabbed it, zipped my tent up, and hid behind my tent as some people came close. They zipped open Cassandra’s tent, and I heard a low whistle. “This one’s a hottie, Zeus.”
“Shut up, Jerry!” Someone replied. I heard another low whistle. I peeked around the edge of the tent and saw another person standing next to Jerry. “Right, Zeus? She’s beautiful.” Zeus nodded. They grabbed her small bag of money next to her. One of the six thugs went to go tinkle. I threw my knife and heard a satisfying thud. I quickly strapped on my Wolverine claws. Someone opened Mr. Genesis’s tent. I heard a quick yelp, and then that person was unconscious. I stifled a laugh. Zeus approached my tent. I shallowed my breathing and listened to him open the tent. He gathered the remaining three thugs and said...
