《人文科學專業英語教程》自1999年出版以來,深受讀者歡迎,被許多高校用作專業英語教學階段的教科書。2006年,它又被教育部評為普通高等教育“十一五”國家級規劃教材,這無疑體現了專家和學者們對該教材的肯定。新的榮譽帶來了新的要求,在試用了七八年后,我們覺得有必要對原教材進行較大規模的修訂,以便使教材內容和語言都更好地反映時代的要求。 其次,修訂這本教材還基于以下的原因:2004年初,教育部頒發了《大學英語課程教學要求》,用以替代原來的《大學英語教學大綱》。它在“較高要求”和“更高要求”中,對學生的專業英語能力提出了比原來的教學大綱更高的要求;根據大綱制訂者的解釋,這是為了適應我國改革開放新形勢的要求而采取的舉措。 形勢的確在變化,但是,這并不意味著學習英語的規律完全變了。而許多這類教材編寫者所追求的目標和境界就是如何使教材既反映時代的變化又保持傳統的優勢。在新修訂的這本教材中,我們采用經典和時文相結合的方式,力圖實現這一目標。如果說原教材在選材上側重著名學者的經典著作的話,那么,新修訂的版本則是一方面保留了內容和文字皆佳的經典之作,另一方面又補充了相當數量的上個世紀后半期至今的著作,這樣不僅可以體現語言的時效性,也能夠使讀者接觸到新知識和新論點。
