《經典數學叢書》（Classics in Mathematics）是一套專門收入Springer以前出版現已成為很受歡迎的經典圖書的系列叢書，旨在不斷滿足新一代年輕學生和研究人員的需要。本書初版于1975年, 2002年Springer將此書重印并編入該叢書。本書是根據作者在曼徹斯特大學和康耐爾大學的代數拓撲講義編寫而成，但內容比一年級研究生用的代數拓撲教材深。
