It includes chapters that focus on the relationship in the individual cases of Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Peru, Bolivia, and the Central American region, bookended by editor-authored chapters addressing what Chinese-Latin American relations might tell us about contemporary South-South relations in general and the possibility that the neoliberal, market-dominated "Washington consensus" model of economic development is giving way to the "Beijing consensus" of greater state involvement. Barbara Hogenboom is Senior Lecturer in Political Science at the Centre for Latin American Research and Documentation (CEDLA) in Amsterdam.
