For teachers, company directors, and advanced dancers, White provides a guide that covers advanced principles meant to complement his more elementary volume Teaching Classical Ballet (1996). He discusses specific teaching issues relating to turning, jumping, and balancing; outlines a class construction format for intermediate and advanced students; and addresses aspects of partnering, pantomime, musicality, the value of rules, the discipline of learning, and the importance of the mental side to studying dance. Methods are based on those of the Russian teacher Agrippina Vaganova, and he concludes with a brief account of her career. Photos and illustrations are not included. There is no index. 作者簡介
John White, former soloist and ballet master of the Ballet Nacional de Cuba and interim ballet master of the Pennsylvania Ballet Company, is codirector of the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet. He has been conducting seminars for dance teachers for nearly thirty years. A contributing editor and writer for Ballet Dancer Magazine, he is the author of Teaching Classical Ballet.
