Cancer: Principles & Practice of Oncology

Chapters in this book were originally published in The Cancer Journal: Principles & Practice of Oncology, vol. 15. With the publication of the eighth edition of this book, the editors decided to use the companion journal, The Cancer Journal: Principles & Practice of Oncology, to freshen the text on a continuous basis. The book focuses on areas of special interest to oncologists from all specialties. It is fully illustrated with color surgical photos, color and b&w diagnostic images, and color process diagrams in a color layout. The first three sections of the book cover sexuality after different types of men's and women's cancers; causes, mechanisms, histopathology, and combined modality treatment of Hodgkin's lymphoma; and imaging, surgical techniques, and long-term results in the management of peritoneal carcinomatosis. A section on charged particle therapy reviews the biology and physics of charged particles, explains the technology for particle therapy, describes clinical experience, and discusses ways to incorporate the emerging technology into routine medical care in the US. Other sections cover issues in monitoring the therapeutic response to cancer treatment, and new therapies for myeloma. DeVita is professor of medicine at the Yale University School of Medicine's Comprehensive Cancer Center and Smilow Cancer Hospital.
