The first three parts of the book cover essentials of word-choice, spelling, sentence structure, punctuation and capitalization. The fourth, and last, focuses on paragraph and essay composition. The "least you should know" approach is stripped of terminology as much as possible and makes readers use words they know to grasp English grammar and usage. Every chapter is full of several exercise sections. Updates to this 11th edition include new explanations, examples and exercises. Part one 1 presents "spelling" before "word-choice," and part 2 clarifies first, second and third-person perspectives. Part 3's section on punctuation cross-references with part 4's section on quotations.
