Environment, Forced Migration and Social Vulnerability

This book contains a selection of contributions to the conference "Environment, Forced Migration and Social Vulnerability" held in Bonn in October 2008. All contributions were reviewed by the Scientific Committee of the conference and the selection was made based on the recommendations of the committee and the relevance of the contributions to the topic of the conference. The book is divided into 6 parts. Each part is introduced with a short editorial by the editors of the volume, putting the papers into context and drawing the linkages between them and the rest of the book.

Dr. Tamer Afifi holds a PhD in Economics (International Trade) from the University of Erlangen-Nurnberg, Germany, an MA in Economics of Development from the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Hague, The Netherlands, and a B.Sc. in Economics from Cairo University, Egypt. He is currently Associate Academic Officer at the United Nations University - Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS), Bonn, Germany. At UNU-EHS, he works in the area of Environment and Climate Change Induced Migration and focuses region wise on the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa and Central America and has done field research in the three regions.
Dr. Jill Jager received her B.Sc. degree in environmental sciences from the University of East Anglia (UK) in 1971 and was awarded her Ph.D. in geography (climatology) by the University of Colorado (USA) in 1974. She has worked as a consultant on energy, environment, and climate for numerous national and international organizations and has an extensive publication record. Currently the main focus of her work is sustainability science.
