While some essays portray brave librarians standing up for free speech, others give examples of silent censorship, when a librarian quietly withdraws a book from the collection or simply does not order a book because it might cause controversy. Some issues discussed include parent concerns in school libraries, pornography and erotica in the academic library, working with Native American collections, and censorship in correctional libraries. The main theme is that each library must have strong collection development and materials reconsideration policies in place, to deal with censorship controversies as they arise.
