In a revision of his 2010 doctoral dissertation at Gothenborg University, Sweden, Walser presents a Greek edition of the Old Testament book based on the fourth-century manuscript codex Vaticanus, facing pages of his English translation, and verse-by-verse commentary. The translation ideally should have the same impact on English readers of today that the Greek version had on its original readers, he says, but that is impossible because the original readers are unknown now, and are likely to have been as diverse as today's English readers are. The commentary focuses on the Greek text of Jeremiah, and on this manuscript in particular, so that he pays little attention to differences with the Masoretic text--a major concern of most editions.
