During the 1990s, a social history of the century of Baha'i in Canada was written, and Echevarria (women's and gender studies, Yukon College, Canada) augments it with a sociological account of women's personal experience and social interactions within the community. The seed question was how women made meaning of the Baha'i Faith and translated that meaning into action. From that, many more complex questions sprouted. She covers the Baha'i Faith, the setting, exploring sacralization and the female self, developing a Baha'i identity and living the life, and moving beyond belief to fields of service. 作者簡介
Lynn Echevarria is the Coordinator and Instructor for the Women’s and Gender Studies Program at Yukon College, Canada, and holds a PhD in sociology from the University of Essex, United Kingdom. She has a long-time research interest and involvement in women’s advancement, and more recently, men’s studies. Her publications include articles, reviews, a co-authored chapter in Lights of the Spirit: Historical Portraits of Black Baha’is in North America 1898-2000, and a chapter in Baha’i and Globalisation. She has been the recipient of a Northern Research Institute grant and two Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) doctoral fellowships.
