Philosopher Philo (20 BC-AD 50) recorded little about his own life in his many works, but Hadas-Lebel (emeritus, Judaism and Hebrew, The Sorbonne) combines his few autobiographical references with the orientations and interests in the rest of his work to provide a glimpse into his inner soul. She explains his personality in the context of the first major synthesis of Hellenism and Judaism, part of a brilliant diaspora, she says, unaware that it was even then drawing to a close. 作者簡介
Mireille Hadas-Lebel, Ph.D.1987,Professor emeritus at the Sorbonne. She has published several books and articles on Judaism in Antiquity and the history of the Hebrew language. Two of her books have been translated into English:Flavius Josephus ( Simon and Schuster, paperback) and Jerusalem against Rome ( Peeters 2006).
