Human Genetics and Society

Yashon (Northeastern U.) and Cummings (Illinois Institute of Technology) provide students with a textbook on human genetics and its influence on their personal and professional lives in society, to better inform their decisions. Each chapter begins with a case study, followed by related genetic concepts, and questions and discussion of legal, ethical, and social issues. This edition has more coverage of scientific concepts like mitosis and meiosis, control of gene expression, and transcription and translation. It has new term definitions, figures, photos, annotations in complex figures, and case studies such as those on sickle-cell anemia in newborns and teacher planning to present the theory of evolution. Other additions include new sections on topics like stem cells, age and infertility, multiple allele inheritance, and gene regulation, and new chapters on mutation and epigenetics and human evolution.
