Christian-Muslim Relations ─ A Bibliographical History (600-900)

This is the first of three volumes in the first part that together cover 600 to 1500, of the series that will bring the bibliography up to the present. In addition to the introduction itself, the volume begins with overview essays on Christians and Christianity in the Qur'an, in Islamic exegesis, in the Sira of Muhammad, and in hadith works before 9000; Muslims in canon law 650-1000; and Christians in early and classical Sunni law. The entries are by authors, arranged chronologically as far as can be determined, and provide as much as is known about their full names, date and places of birth and death, biographical information, and sources of information. Then their works on Christian-Muslim relations are cited, with title, date, original language, description, significance, manuscripts, editions and translations, and studies. David Thomas, PhD (1983) in Islamic Studies, University of Lancaster, is Professor of Christianity and Islam at the University of Birmingham. He has published widely on Christian-Muslim relations, and among his most recent works is Christian Doctrines in Islamic Theology (Brill, 2008).Barbara Roggema has a Ph.D. in Languages and Cultures of the Middle East (University of Groningen, 2007) and is lecturer in the History of the Islamic World at John Cabot University (Rome). Her most recent publication is The Legend of Sergius Ba?ira. Eastern Christian Apologetics and Apocalyptic in Response to Islam (Brill, 2008).
